Pathfinding errors
« on: September 04, 2006, 06:28:00 am »

I'm getting constant pathfinding spam from dwarves who go to the food stockpile, pick up some food, and then say "X cancels Eat: could not find path, despite the fact that the dining room is mere squares away. They then stay on that spot, spamming, until I enlist them and set their squad to carry one food ration, at which point they eat, and then move on again. A few dwarves still eat in the dining room, but many do not. This is exceptionally irritating and time-consuming to do, but I can't really see any other way to get round it (I am building a new dining room, though).

Has a tree grown and blocked it? Is a door locked? Those are the most common causes of pathfinding problems. apart from broken bridges

Confirmed, I have this problem too. They are standing in the middle of the food storage, holding a piece of food in hand (hauled) and spamming "cancels Eat - can't find path" messages. Indeed, for some reason activating and setting carried rations snaps them out of it.

Right now however, my Sheriff decided to do that too. Tough luck activating that one... I guess I'll just have to create a new world to play until the bug is fixed.

I had the same problem the other day. Turned out an unfinished, but furnished, noble's quarters was locked and the dwarves were trying to go in there to eat.

Understandable, but I don't have a single locked door in the whole fortress.

Edit: Ah, wait, you are right! Not a door, but a well was blocking off one of the tables. Why do they want to eat there?

I have dwarves in the middle of my fortress area saying they can't find path to chasm an item.  There are no doors between them and the chasm; they're between the river and chasm.
