and i tried to create a little game using Rpg maker VX.
(which is a funny and easy program, imho)
while i actually ran the project on their forums, and asked for feedback, i didn't receive any at all, which made me lose interest in the project, (not even negative ones, which were the ones i was actually expecting).
so i'll place in the spoiler what i wrote on the other forum:
I have taken quite a lot of things from various sites and so on. If by any chance you know what things i have taken and to whom they belong, i will add them to the incoming credits. I can't keep track with my memory, and for the moment i am certain that i have to thank the "Closet" site, the "sprite creator" thing, the "Guide to variables" of Celianna, and the "RpgmakerVX school" by Aindra. those were life savers in more than one time in my programming events and variables.
I have also read the topic about "great turnoff and turnon" in games. But then decided to go with what I wanted to do, and not what others wanted to see in games.
I'll upload a demo once i am sure the first part is "correctically english" and "glitches free".
Bonus contents:
Quite easy to find some, absolutely nonsense others, (someone remembers FF7? the chocobo materia? and so on?) will make life spicy, and depending on your choices different endings will be available.
Multiple choices lead to different things, and this was obvious. What i forgot to state was that there is the same tipe of interaction among pg and npc, that there is among npc. among girls the variable i used is called "Jealousy"
For example, having in the party Deyla and wynn could make up for some truly interesting extra dialogues in certain situation depending on how it went.
"Jealousy W-D" will grow or diminish depending on how you'll get away from certain situations, things like Trust, or Worry, or even Hate, will all depend on interactions.
and to make sure everything is not repeatable, you won't be able to reinteract with the same thing to boost up your trust or the jealousy.
Q&A
How's the demo going?
Using my brother as a labmic...ehm, a tester, he reached a 22 minutes gameplay without encountering glitches of sort. truthfully said, had he explored everything instead of simply bumping against slimes for his own sadistic way, he might have enjoyed it a bit more and could have seen more things.
Will i be able to swap persons from the party?
I'll put to good use an Inn thing at the first village, which will certainly be able to. I was thinking something in the Neverwinternights2 style, were you enter the inn you lose them all, and by speaking to them you can either start dialogues depending on your trust hate or worry, or grab them in your party.
Some quests will require specific persons from your party.
Can i finish the game in solo?
Are you nuts? The beginning in solo, having being tested by myself, in the fastest way possible, reduces you to at least half health. And till the next potion you'll have to hike a bit.
Do monster release always the same..."potion" thingy or normal objects?
Nope, not a chance, come on, first level and already 500 healed? you'll have to start with "fruits" 50 each (takeable from the bushes in a random number for a maximum time of a random number) "healty bars" 100, and so on.
So, nope, no potions. most of them will be without icon, because god bless me with a good eyesight, i still can't find how you can increment your icon's number.
Do not worry though, somethings are just ment to be done.
So...i heard you're mad.
Yes, i am. Do not worry if some enemies will randomly put to good use their brains, or if your mighty goddess' *tm* "chatter" doesn't work.
Guess what, you can even talk through some situation, but that won't make you look good in the eyes of some bloodthirsty pirates...and this brings up the next character released! have a look at his bio!
Project development:
At the moment the Mine section and the village section have been completely mapped.
now it's eventing time.
Luckily i hate to go to the beach.
Mine eventing 50% complete.
Added Day and night cycle through Kylock's system.
Added slanted bars through Sephirothspawn's system.
Added learn skill by use of modern algebra and it's addon.
added Cozziekun's custom title screen.
Added: short story and long story.
added: quite a bit of texting.
added: bonus character number 1°
added: Madness.
...wait, the last one was already there.
New adding:
Mine eventing 75%.
Decided: no use of learn skill by use of modern algebra, makes the game crash.
Added:Village map
Added:The road.
Added:Eventing for Vampress
Added:First special move.
A little poll:
Would you prefer to have or to have not, time-based quests? i personally hate quests with a timer, even if they give you a huge amount of time i find it quite annoying having to do everything as fast as possible. However, since i ain't a player but the creator, i'd find it quite amusing to see other suffer. Thus, the question.
So, what's your opinion on Timeable quests?
Instead of calling things like "demo 1" "demo 2" i'll upload the demos like if they were Historycal ages of the past.
So on with the first demo:
it's 60 MB and something, all included in case there were some people without rpgmaker, and because i'm sure it's better to upload everything, than to miss out something which might end up being crucial to make the map work. So, first things first:
the menu has also OTHER options. one of which is the extras. now, when you finish the extras and want to leave it, just press esc and exit to title. (i have no clue why doing it directly from the menu doesn't work) said this: i am more than sure that in the beginning, especially in the tower, somethings might not work, (like the extra area with the mirror, that is) .
furthermore, you won't see on the text wherever or not you earned good/bad point. i mean, come on. if you can't even understand that your answers are evil or good, maybe you need a psychiatrist, and a good one at that.
I suppose everyone knows how installing a demo works.
Then i suppose everyone is familiar with the "the demo is horrible, but i won't insult the creator, i'll gently explain to him where things went wrong, so he can correct them, and make a more enjoyable game"
Finally, remember this, i hope it's made clear:
there are certainly sprites, images, or so on which do not belong to me. i'm sure at the 100% because i cant' draw a thing. So, if you KNOW from who i took them (since my memory is that of a Goldfish with alzheimer) please DO tell me. I'll add them in the credits asap. This to say i do not enjoy taking other people's effort like they were my own.
for what concerns the scripting, and for that i intend the dialogues, the touch objext and all that base stuff, that's mine. day night cicles isn't.
Torch system isn't.
the rest it is. and i'm writing all this because the uploading time is quite long.
finally, i would truly like to have Comments. lot's and lot's of them. if something is not right, if you enjoyed a bit of it, if something went wrong, if your pc exploded because of the moon, or things like that.
there are NO timed quests in the demo. And the demo ends when you kill the three warriors at the village. and they become crystals.
The extra menu is yet to be finished, but that's a given, since i still need to finish the game.
and tell me how much time it took you to finish it. (you know, press the Esc button and look at the time in the corner). if it's 45 minutes or more (i doubt it) tell me, so this topic can be moved in the "official demo projects" and no longer in the early development.
that's all. oh yes. I was nearly forgetting to upload the demo.
Silly me.
as i said before (and maybe also in the past) i would truly enjoy feedback. Even of the kind of "it's an horrible, horrible game" it's not completed, since i did leave things there for lack of interest, on the other hand, i would truly like to know What makes it horrible/decent? can someone truly call it decent?
i suppose i grabbed the right section to post this, (and i double checked the forum guidelines) before posting it here.
I just want a feedback and to know wherever or not i should continue it (during the summer) or not (so i should grab something else to pass time).
the file is an exe, just doubleclick+install, it's in a pokemon graphic (sprites and all) but it shouldn't be anything hard on pcs...(while i dunno about the smaller pcs, since the program requires a minimum resolution of more than 800*600, but that's just the game-editor, so maybe you can play it fine on a netbook)
i used mediafire to upload it, since it's a no queue uploader, and it should be easy.
link is again under spoilers.
*now waits to be feedback-annihilated*
