deteriorating performance?
« on: September 03, 2006, 04:38:00 pm »

I've had my current save going for many years now. However, lately it has been just incredibly unplayable due to the fact it's now incredibly slow and seems to require even more CPU power. It seems to have started when I had a ton of pathing errors and have my lava moat up. If it's not that, then I really am out of ideas. Anyone know what causes this and if there's a way to fix it? It's really not too fun anymore  :(

It's the pathing errors.

I had the same happen when an irate trapper decided to trash the only river bridge I had.

If it is constantly spitting out pathing errors, then it is constantly failing to find paths, which means it is doing a lot of flood fill type routines over the whole map a lot.  This is often a cause of performance problems, and one of the main reason I want to track down message spams.
