How's the roguelike scene on android?
« on: September 05, 2010, 03:09:55 am »

I'm finally getting a decent phone next week and I'm pretty excited. Any good roguelike's I should look for? I heard there's a nethack port but haven't heard much else. Also does anyone use commandbot? I'm thinking I could use it to play dungeon crawl on the go.

I hear it comes with a compiler and a console, so you can play anything that can be compiled with gcc I think. Also, shouldn't this be in other games?

Angband has been ported. Just search in the Marketplace.

Just did a search for "roguelike" on the marketplace and saw Nethack pop up too. There were a few other ones I didn't recognize, many of which looked like not-so-great made for android RLs.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Apologies for bumping an old thread, but the roguelike scene on Android is pretty vibrant these days.

Here's a link to the roguelikes in the market: https://market.android.com/search?q=roguelike

Highlights:

- "Legends of Yore" is doing really well lately, popular and getting high ratings.
- "Dweller" is a mainstay.
- Angdroid.org released "Roguelike Classics" recently (Rogue, Moria, Larn) and they also have "Angband" and "Angband Variants".
- "Voyage to Farland", my own game, patterned after the Shiren Mystery Dungeon games.
- "Andor's Trail" has been very popular - tons of downloads.
- plenty of others to try out: NetHack, Quest Swords And Spells, Kamyran's Eye, Trap Hunter, TraqueHack, No Way But Down, etc.

They all offer variations on the roguelike theme and could probably use some support from enthusiasts, so try them out.
