[modding] This is definetly weird. (bone & shell ite
« on: February 12, 2008, 06:42:00 am »

First, I thought the issue was less pronounced. Now, it has turned out to be quite weird.

The backstory:
I have modded into the game a set of armor craftable exclusively from bone, and a smaller set craftable from shell.
Now, the basic principle works like a charm. These items do appear in the craft workshops.
The thing is, the items appear haphazardly.

For example, of the five items in the set of bone armor (mail, crown, gauntlets, greaves, boots), the human nations in the world I use for testing only have the greaves available at the 'shop. The dark elves have the gauntlets, the crown, and the greaves, again. The goblins have the boots and again, the greaves. The dwarves have only the shell helmet. These entities have the sets assigned. The items are set up correctly, as proven by the fact that they do appear. Why don't the sets appear in their entirety?

I'm aware that only one item per type can be craftable from the 'shop, that was the reason I made the set. All other items had the BARRED and SCALED tags removed, disallowing their crafting with bone or shell.

It's no longer just an interface problem, methinks. Either something's very wrong with the way I set items up, or something's wrong with the system.

There's nothing extraordinarily wrong that I can see. Bug or my error?
Note: adding HARD tags doesn't seem to help.

Can you access them from the Manager screen?

This is a fox skull helmet. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It menaces with spikes of fox bone and is encircled with bands of fox leather. This item is haunted by the ghost of Alfador Angrorung the fox.

Nope. Nothing in the manager.

Wait, that's what [BARRED] and [SCALED] do?

I don't know all the side effects, but apparently BARRED allows crafting the item with bone, and SCALED allows crafting it with shell.

In another world (non-crashing worlds are becoming rare with a lot of races), the humans have both the shell items, and the dwarves have only those too. The dark elves and goblins have three of the five bone items (greaves, mail, boots), and one of the shell ones. I am, quite simply, at a loss here. I can provide the mod for experimentation, if you need it, Toady. You can also use it to determine worldgen crash causes - the worlds crash on a per-seed basis.

I think even if they are marked as "COMMON" in the entity, it will only force one of each type per entity realization (though it can add more than one).  Perhaps there should be a new rarity value "FORCED" to force the item to be used.
