[38a] slow civilization screen
« on: February 11, 2008, 06:56:00 pm »

My computer runs DF ok. 50 dwarves, 3x3 site, 30-45 FPS. But when I hit [c] and go to the civilization screen, that little screen with five lines of text, the FPS plummets. It shoots right down to single digits. I haven't heard of anybody else having this problem, and I think it's new to this version. Strange.

It's because nothing is actually happening while you're looking at the screen. There are no frames because the text doesn't change.

Although what you say is logical, in this case, I'm not convinced that it's true. I find that when I view other screens in DF where nothing is changing, the FPS will quickly shoot up to whatever it's capped at.

However, the [c]ivilizations screen, for me, does indeed cause the FPS to plummet, and is laggy and unresponsive, unlike other screens. I can only guess that some heavy calculations are being performed, for some reason, as I notice that DF's CPU usage will increase dramatically in the Civilizations screen compared to in other menus.

Hrm...  I think I might know what's going on here, but I'm not sure.  I'll create a report.
