When I make a new world, the frequency of minerals is directly proportional to natural savagery and number of beasts. The more dangerous I make the world, the more minerals I make available on embark sites.

when I first downloaded the new version I wasn't paying much attention, so I thought a higher number meant more minerals. So I went a few years digging in vain, looking for metals they weren't there.

Even the caravans barely had any metal, and what they had was copper. :I
