I agree that it is a great article, its how I found out about DF! Been having a great time playing it this past week.

@Mehpisto
What was your other favorite free game in GFW?

A few months ago, there was a big Freeloader section, 101 free games or something like that. It happened to have some info on a game (semi-roguelike, no less) that I play called Transcendence. I'm not linking to it because it could be considered spam and/or advertising (yeah, like this post isn't...).

Oh yeah, I've played that game too. Didn't remember seeing it in that article, but it was easy to overlook stuff since there was so much in it.

Yeah, I struggled with that, but couldn't really cram any more into the wordcount and still make this about Tarn and Zach, which is where I thought the story was.  I did manage to slide in the whole flingify example, but I would have loved to be able to feature some of the more ingenious fortress designs.  As it was, I managed to double my wordcount over the original commission.

Thanks for all the kind words.

You're right about that farm setup being madness.

Maybe I should play my next fort insane, and combine all kinds of bizarre architecture.

All tables must have four chairs around them.
All farm floodplots must open onto main passageways.
As many passageways must be 1 tile wide as possible.
butchers shops will be open onto the main meeting hall/dining room.
Wells are on 9 tile square rooms in main passageways.
Only one tile wide bridges.
All barrels + buckets are made of metal, roads + bridges + buildings made of either wood, or metal blocks.

Any more ideas?
