The dwarf that I assigned to be trade broker got mutilated by a giant cave swallow. He lost a couple of limbs and was dragged back to an empty bed (a-la Metallica's One - by the way - has anybody experienced this yet? a blind, deaf, armless & legless dwarf that survives???) -

on to the actual (possible) bug -
when some merchants came by the trade liasion went right to the unconscious dwarf in bed and stayed there until I pissed off the merchant by not accepting their rip-off counter offer 3 times -then I got a message that the diplomat left angry)

I've seen this bug as well in 33g.  My broker was injured (not as severely as yours) and I switched the job to a different dwarf--but not before a caravan had arrived on the map.  The merchant stood around with his bodyguards in my barracks until the dwarf got better, which fortunately didn't take very long.

Afaik, trade liaison wants to speak to mayor/outpost leader, not broker. You can't kill change your leader - one is elected if previous one dies.
