what skills should I give them, what should i bring with me? (this is a reclaim after an abandon because i don't think I brought the right stuff with me.) After that, what should I do? Also, will there be caravans for me, because the sea is frozen, or will I have no traders and migrants after the hardcoded waves?

I don't believe you'll encounter many trees. Bring a healthy helping of wood. If you don't have many soil layers (for underground tree cultivation), bring a loooot of wood.

Other than that, a standard food + tools + gear embark should be fine. To maximize wood availability, there are some advanced techniques you can use to save embark points. Like not bringing any pre-crafted wood/cloth items & forging your tools after embark. But that's more advanced stuff, and you should be fine without doing that.

Is it a glacier? Or just tundra? (Because if it's a glacier, I wish I had that embark  :o)

I'm pretty sure you still get Dwarven caravans while on islands, just nothing else, unless there are other civs on the island with you. I could be totally wrong about that of course, and am not sure if the ocean being frozen makes a difference. Also not sure on migrants.

So basically, I have no real helpful information, other than saying you should just go for it. Worst case scenario your engraver gets some training when you reclaim and start making slabs immediately.

I agree with the "just go for it" sentiment.  You are going to have two issues: wood and water, but almost no invaders.

The wood can be taken care of initially by bringing some in the wagon and permanently from the caverns.  Water is going to have to be from either an aquifer (if you have one) or the caverns (if they aren't all dry).

I'm pretty sure the ocean will stop visitors, even if it is frozen -- hit tab when choosing the site to find out for sure.  If I'm right, the only enemies you'll get are animals, forgotten beasts, and titans, and the only traders you'll see are Dwarves.

I will run the experiment to completion anyway, however. Even if the only reason why there is a punctured equilibrium in the fortress is because I have been brutally butchering babies
EDIT: I just remembered that dwarves can't equip halberds. That might explain why the squads that use them always die.

You'll get migrant waves normally, nothing changes about that, and dwarven trade caravans will still visit you yearly. You won't see anyone else, though.

I always seem to end up with a magnificent burial complex and nowhere near enough bodies to fill it, or far too many bodies and nowhere to put any of them.

The relative lack of invaders means a relative scarcity of iron, bronze, copper, and silver. If these ores are not native to your site, you will have to trade for those you want--most likely iron. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about this during embark (food, drink, & wood for beds are way more important than buying 3 bars of steel), but definitely take it into consideration once feeding your population is no longer an issue.

You also don't need to worry about water, really. You only actually need it for dwarves in the hospital, which only happens if dwarves get injured, which (usually) only happens if dwarves get attacked. With almost no invaders, nobody's going to need to drink any water . . . unless you've got aggressive wildlife, and of course there are always megabeasts.
