As I was building a dam (just for the heck of it, no reason, really), I came across an odd material for walls. And even if it's mean't to work like this (I'd expect it to at least mention it's ice) The distance to nearest block is quite strange.
   

I took a backup of the savegame in case it's needed.

I believe "water" in this case means a block of ice. Whatever you build with it will melt come spring.  :p

Looks like it's counting the tiles of the entire river, though, which is definetely weird.

Duh, why didn't I think of this when building my fortress' water tank.  It only gets like one or two days a year when the temperature is high enough to melt water and my poor military dwarves keep dying because of it.

Well, just to test it, I did build a piece off wall out of this water, now it's 22. early spring, the river has been thaw for about 40 days now, and the wall (inside) is still there.
