No job dwarfs go to their starting position
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:34:00 pm »

When a Dwarf has no job, he or she tends to move to the location where they started the game (this applies to the first 7, I think immigrants go to the same general area).  This isn't normally a problem, but if you decide for whatever reason to move your gateway into the mountains significantly up or down from the starting location, your dwarves can move significant distances to wait for a new job, requiring a move of a significant distance back in order to work a new job.

Have you defined a gathering room (use 'q' on a well or a table?)  That should override it, I think.

I don't think it overrides it. I think meeting halls just count as another place to gather, so they'll split their time between meeting halls and the starting spot.
