Of course you should buy the mystery object! At worst it's a Hellcube that will summon Xenobites that will horrifically torture and murder your dwarves, and at best it's delicious candy!  I like those odds!

I've found a few of these myself wandering around goblin fortresses.

I found a Large in a goblin fortress too. Looked like a gem but not sure since I lost two lungs and a heart to an arrow and started a new adventurer.
