Water Source Problem
« on: June 23, 2011, 02:29:52 pm »

One of my military dwarves - my axe-wielding, armoured superhero - has been savaged in many fights with around seven different capybaras. He is currently curled up in the corner of the infirmary, and has been fed, his broken left lower arm and right hand seen examined and sutured.

Problem is, he's thirsty.

Whenever my medical dwarves (there's two, and they're both migrants!) attempt the task to water the prisoner patient, it comes up with the message saying:

---- Cancels give Water: Need water source.

Yes, I have buckets, and yes, I have clean water sources designated. They just don't seem to want to do anything. Any suggestions?

Are the buckets free/empty? Does water source designation actually shows numbers? Do you have a well?

I'd wager that it's either you don't have enough buckets, or they need a well.

Turns out the water designation on the ponds I have designated are all 0. So, apparently, none of them are filled with water, and are filled with some other blue liquid.

Has someone finally modded -that metal- to be a liquid? O_o

You would wish  ;D

It means the water's salty, building a well will trick your dwarves into using the water anyway. Do so while you build a proper water reserves!

Also zones must be set on land with access to water,  not over water, though in that case it must be salty water, because dwarves can use water from ponds without designation.

Problem solved, anyways. The axedwarf in question died of dehydration in the infirmary, and is now nicely entombed deep within the ground in a coffin of silver, as he so deserves.

About the other four fully armed and equipped dwarves (dwarfs?) who were sent out to kill this giant capybara, but returned in four-five pieces each, they shall not be honoured with such treatment. To the bottom of the salty pond for them.
