Modding in furniture
« on: July 01, 2011, 07:19:56 am »

Hey guys, hope your doing well. I just have a few questions as I haven't been modding for long but I hope you guys can help. :)

Anyway, the first is this. How do I mod in furniture and alter the sorts of materials for existing furniture?
I want to have a lounge for my general with dragon leather chairs, map tables etc. It just seems bland with the standard affair of furniture.

I'm afraid it's not possible at the moment. You CAN create a custom workshops like map table  or general's desk with custom reactions like "study maps" or "look busy and mean" for them but that's it.

Anyway back on topic, what about the display case mod, isn't that basically a piece of furniture?

They're nearly as bad as badgers. Build a couple of anti-buzzard SAM sites marksdwarf towers and your fortress will look like Baghdad in 2003 from all the aerial bolt spam. You waste a lot of ammo and everything is covered in unslightly exploded buzzard bits and broken bolts.

At its heart it's a custom building with the [BUILD_ITEM:1:NONE:NONE:NONE:NONE][CAN_USE_ARTIFACT] line. That means that anything at all can be used, from vermin remains to artifact statues. If you do a search for 'display case mod' you'll find more information.

Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
