Auto pause the game when you locate adamantine?
« on: June 20, 2011, 10:39:24 pm »

The game pauses when you locate damp stone or warm stone while mining and miners undesignate the block and will only mine it when you are sure you want to destroy it and designate it a second time. It is a clever safety measure because water and magma can do a lot of harm to your fort. I think the clowns coming out of the adamantine shafts can be even more dangerous. Is there a possibility to set up the game to autopause when miners locate new blocks of raw adamantine? Well, it's not important for me that the game pauses, the miners shall just undesignate and not mine the adamantine until I tell them explicitely.

Probably all changeable notifications are located in announcements.txt, and I couldn't find any which may be responsible for this. Though I also couldn't identify one responsible for objects destroyed (like doors by trolls), so am not saying that there aren't any. However, I see a flaw in that idea. You can mine adamantine by channeling from upper level, and it is the main way I do it, mining very rarely in the beginning, and usually only after obsidianizing the vein from outside. Channeling warm/damp stone from upper level doesn't give notifications though. So it probably wouldn't work anyway, unless you somehow always mine, never channel.

No good solution but micromanaging the mining.

Also, if I remember correctly, there was a way to calculate the center of the candy cane.

The hollow space for adamantine requires a 4x4 space, which comprises the 2x2 hollow area and the surrounding adamantine tiles.
The 2x2 hollow area on each level must overlap with any hollow areas above and below by at least one tile.

Combine those two and you can pick out safe areas and ones that might be safe.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Yeah, the fun part is always at least 2x2 empty space, so don't dig any candy that could reveal such a thing. (ninja'd!)

Also, it goes straight down to the fun place, so if you determine that a certain layer can't possibly lead there, every layer above it in that tube is also safe.
