Criteria for Dwarven Caravan

I've been trying to find a way to spice up my play and make it a bit more difficult. I was thinking of embarking from a dead dwarven civ but I was wondering about how caravans would work. Specifically, would the other dwarven civs send a caravan or would I have to go without a dwarf trading partner all together?

On a side note, I know the first two immigrant waves are guaranteed but if your civ is dead do you receive nothing after that even if you are near another dwarven civ?

If anyone knows about either I'd appreciate the help, I couldn't find anything on it through the wiki

If your civ is dead, you won't get anything past your first caravan and first two migration waves. Other races' caravans will come, though.

criteria for dwarven caravans are simply
1) have access to your dwarf civ (if you're on an island with water on all sides on the actual embark map I don't think your caravans, and if they DO spawn, they'll likely drown immediately)
2) dwarf civ actually is going strong and lives >>

I'm not sure if it still works, but at one point if you had a fuck huge mountain range that separating two civs, you'd only get caravans from one of the two. If you abandoned and reclaimed, then suddenly you have access to BOTH.

Surrounding physical geography DOES matter to a degree >> I've not experimented enough though...

Does the condition of the civ you select affect the immigrant waves you get? If I were to go in as an adventurer and thin the amount of people in the kingdom would it lower the amount of immigrants?

I don't think the migrants are calculated from anything outside of your fortress and the yes/no status of your civ. Any "thinning" probably wouldn't matter anyway. There are a lot of dwarves.
