Artifact stockpiles
« on: June 18, 2011, 10:27:02 am »

Hi !

I wanted to create an artifact gallery in my fortress, but I seem to have messed some things up. ^^" So I have a few questions.

1) I created a custom stockpile for furniture/finished goods of only core and total artifact quality. I had forgotten to put the maximum bin number at zero so my first artifact got put in a bin on the stockpile. Now I can't find a way to take item out of the bin, how can I do it ? (I tried dumping the bin, but it was going to dump the artifact with it.)

2) My last artifact is a perfect gem. But it hasn't been taken to my artifact stockpiles... to any stockpile actually. Which option must I have on a stockpile so it accepts perfect gems ?

Thanks in advance for the help ! :)

Large gems in general seems broken in latest versions, so you'll have to dump them ( assuming artifacts can be dumped, I have moods turned off on all my forts since 40d so I don't recalls ). You'll have to dump things OUT of bins before you can put it somewhere that's not in bins. Find a safe place to dump things and do it!

1. Remove the stockpile the bin containing the artifact is in. Artifact will then get transferred to the artifact stockpile not allowing bins

Should you fail to comply, strict !!disciplinary actions!! will be taken. Also, we feel we should remind you that one of the "criminals" on your list is the chief medical dwarf. If he ends up too badly injured to do his job, you will be fired. Out of a magma cannon.

Nope, you can't dump artifacts so I guess I can't do anything with the perfect gem.

And as for the other, I created a stockpile accepting bins, my dwarves put the bin with the artifact on the stockpile right away. I removed the stockpile, and they don't seem to want to take the artifact to another stockpile...

I have this exact same problem with my "Artifact Vault" stockpile, and with all stockpiles in general: once things are in bins, I can't get my dwarves to take things out of bins to move them to a stockpile that doesn't accept bins.  They just leave the items inside the bins sitting wherever they are and refuse to move them at all.  The instant I say the new stockpile accepts bins they starting moving the bins.

So I'd love to know the answer to this, too.  :)

You could always use a display case mod(it is built into genesis if you are using it). With a display case you can build a case using glass and the artifact/gem/any item in question in a busy area and all the dwarves can admire it.
