can anybody tell me how i can put a caged animal etc on top of a bridge?? cheeers

Build a support, build floor on top of it, have bridge butt up to it, build cage on top of the supported floor, have a lever for support, have fun!

You can't actually build off to sides of bridges, despite it 'allowing' you to, it don't supports constructs, and not ON it for sure.

ed: Or do you mean pitting the animal? You'd have to zone it for pitting a level above, and it don't works reliably for wild animals

Wild animals, you can use the floating cage trick: Build a wall, build a cage atop this wall, then deconstruct the wall.  The cage will float.  If there are nearby floor tiles, then when you activate the cage, the animal falls, while the cage and mechanism move onto the nearby floor.

For tame animals, you can pasture them very easily.
