Quick and easy lengendary Dining room.
« on: August 28, 2006, 10:11:00 pm »

I had my miners carve out a 13x13-1 room and put in a few tables and chairs, then I made a dining room from one of the tables. Since I only a few dwarves in my fortress, I used the remaining space in my dining room for my furniature stockpile.

After looking at my dwarves' profiles, I notice they happy that they were happy eating in a great dining room. Then they were eating in a fantastic dining room. Finally it became lengendary, after the dwarves filled the stockpile with all sorts beds, doors, barrels, rock mechanisms, etc.

Dammit, why didn't I think of that!

...I could see it as being legitimate in some cases, though.  A gem or coin stockpile in the corner would certainly make any self-respecting dwarf happy...  a pile of gold bars probably would, too.

A heap of mothballed chairs, on the other hand...

The real issue here might be that 'unplaced' furniture shouldn't count towards room quality.  A stockpile filled with gold or gems still might work for this, but a stockpile of beds probably shouldn't.

Ok, so wait.  Combine this with a previously noted exploit, and put every single room in your fortress entirely overlapping, on top of each other, encompassing all of your most valuable stockpiles.

The value will be calculated as 1/4th the usual, yes, but it will be 1/4th of your entire fortress' worth, more or less.  In every single room you build.

Just set every door in the fortress as internal and expand every room to its max.

This part about the stockpile is just strange.  The stockpile isn't a "masterable" building, so it shouldn't be associated to the room, and items lying on the ground aren't counted either.  There's just a bug somewhere.

I do think that it might make sense for gold, gem, or valuable-bar stockpiles to add a little to a room's value, though...  maybe not at their full value, but dwarves building sleeping quarters or dining halls surrounded by huge bins of coins, gems, and bars of gold makes sense to me.

Yeah, that sounds reasonable.  It's a bit rough to check the ground for things all the time, but perhaps under the auspices of a stockpile it would be able to restrict the checks enough.
