This was several days ago, maybe over a week, and I wouldn't even begin to know where to start looking or even when it was exactly said, but I was listening to NPR and I specifically heard mention that someone had contacted (in at least one case) the woman in question and she responded saying the whole thing was consensual. I remember that fact fairly clearly.

I could be wrong, or they could be wrong. I don't know, this is an old source at this point, but I feel that it's enough to say, at least, that it's possible that in one or more of the cases there could have been consent.

No, I don't like that he lied. No I don't like some of the other things have have come out from this case, but really, I think the pictures honestly aren't that big of a deal, and if they hadn't accidentally ended up on twitter, none of this, likely, would have ever surfaced.

I find it unsettling for exactly the same reason it's easy for a woman to skip birth control and guilt a man into marriage from pregnancy. Or skip birth control, dump the man, and demand child support payments. Or have random children by many fathers and be eligible for more welfare.

This is the point where I'd be calling you out for something if I didn't live so close to the bad part of town where I (regularly) see every one of these things except for the last one become true.

Well, I appreciate you not calling events in my life a lie then. Thanks.

Secondly, attacking the media or the population at large does nothing to defend Weiner's actions.

I see you still haven't grasped that I'm not defending him.

While apologizing to everyone but the people he actually sent photos to and stuff, and repeatedly emphasizing how he needs to heal--but paying no attention to anyone else's healing.

Good job, bro...

Ah, well at least there's a happy ending without the need for that silly burden of proof thing.

People put pressure on him for a developing story.  He resigned.  It's not like this was an obstruction of justice.  He did something, it became exposed that he may have done other things, he lied all over the place, and then he made the choice to bow out.

What is there to actually prove?

Way back when it all started, the allegation was that this was completely unsolicited. That's been hinted at to be false, that there was some sort of consent given in at least one case. I said several pages ago that I would like to see evidence of the original, completely unsolicited picture charges.

I've never said what he did was defensible, but I despise the appearance of media-loaded sensationalism. That means I'd like to have more information on it, like what parts of the exchanges were kept secret (after the original story that there weren't any exchanges prior to photos being sent).

It just seems like there's something about the whole thing that doesn't add up. *shrug* It's really irrelevant, I'll never be privy to that information. I just don't like feeling like I've been led around and forced to draw a conclusion that may only be part of the story.

Keep in mind, regardless of what happened here, a politician resigning because they've been conclusively found to have done something bad is good. A politician resigning because they know that, whatever they may or may not have done, nonstop media hounding will prevent them from ever being able to do their job, not to mention probably destroy their personal life, is not a good thing.
