As far as I know a road needs an architect, and then it needs no particular profession.

That's strange. I can confirm that all my paved roads seem to require Architecture. Lucky you.

I'm pretty sure this is what happens:

Building roads have two phases. The first requires an architect. The second requires no special profession.

An architect probably did the first step and then was interrupted from doing the second, so a farmer came and did it.

However, there seems to be a bug where even though the second part doesn't require any particular labor, it gives experience towards the mason job.

That's my experience with it, anyway.

Are you sure you just don't have anybody profession name Architect? Surely you had somebody with the Architecture labor.. A LOT of stuff uses it.
