Portable Apps
« on: June 09, 2011, 08:48:33 pm »

i currently use a variety of software that i can install directly to a USB drive and run from it with out any thing being installed to the registry of the computer i'm on
allowing me to use my own software on many different computers

i recently noticed that dwarf fortress also doesnt install anything to the registry
so i tried it out on my USB drive and it runs great!

so to those who are interested in such things
Portable Apps is a wonderful site. i've already posted information about DF on their forum so maybe a little cross site chatter may start up.

enjoy folks!

But yeah, Portable Apps is a great website and I tend to use it quite a good bit. Having things on my USB is so handy  :P

PortableApps doesn't have any need for spambots.
There's no profit involved.  Why would they care?

Naw, this is just a guy who picked a bad way to first post :P
(Hint to OP-guy: You may want to improve your grammar...  Make it look like you actually took some time writing this..  Poor grammar + poor capitalization makes you look like a bot...  something we don't take kindly to around here)

Nice. I will take Jays word for it, but advertising in your first post? Good job.

Yeah, I've gotten a lot better at picking out the actual spambots (which are few and few between) but a lot of people haven't, yet. So any time a Lunatic makes a post like this even if I see it I try not to take the first post because a Lunatic being called a spambot is entertaining to me for some reason.

Anyway, I'm disappointed that some apps, due to how they work, are not cut out for being portable. Such as Daemon Tools. But it's great that the majority (like my favorite app ever, CCleaner) are.

And now that I think about it, with theoretical friends that actually like Dwarf Fortress, a USB drive would be an alternate solution to passing around community forts. Or even the same but with family members.
