Sparring dwarves crashing game

When I set a squad of dwarves to off duty and they spar the game eventually crashes.  I had the dwarves set to unarmed with no armor.  They're ordinary dwarves freshly immigrated.  The barracks is an large loam area.  The barracks are near a downard staircase.
