First and foremost, this ancient DOS game called Battle For Atlantis. It was a strategy game based around four factions fighting over color-coded territories on a small group of islands, and you were awarded armies each turn based on the number of cities you controlled. AND IT WAS FUCKING AMAZING.

Halo 3 (Yeah, if I'm going to be honest, that ate more hours of fun than CS:S and TF2 combined...)

Homeworld (GOD YES, I LOVE YOU)
Pirates Vikings & Knights II (for being the only FP, multiplayer game I know that got pure melee combat to be so, so sweet)

L.A. Noire looks really neat, but the dialogue really isn't selling me. When the characters talk, it sounds like a modern action movie, rather than the sort of thing I'd expect from the Dick Tracey era.

As far as gameplay goes, though, it looks pretty darned neat. Phoenix Wright meets Heavy Rain, with a bit of Grand Theft Auto thrown in.

I'm loving the game entirely. I'm reading a letter, and I notice how part of the writing looks like it was wet at a part where the author was probably crying. I love small details and random characterization like that, even of insignificant characters. I think the "Truth, Doubt, Lie" mechanic could be better, but I'm loving the detective work, dialogue and everything. Not crazy about the small crimes where the end result is usually instant death penalty for all criminals; I'd rather feel like playing a pure detective than a cross between a detective and the punisher. If it weren't for that it would be one of the best I've ever played.

Pretty much any of Valve's games could qualify but Half-Life 2 and Portal 2 take the cake (oho see what I did there).  The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were the absolute pinnacle of that series; for whatever reason I never liked A Link to the Past.  Super Mario 64 and Galaxy were utterly amazing, I first played 64 when I was really young so I barely even noticed how great it was and when I was old enough to realize I was no loner able to get that feeling, but playing Galaxy gave me the same sort of amazement.  Star Fox 64 was great.  Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was fun, but it wore off quickly once you got the game breaker classes and utterly outclassed everything the game threw at you.  Advance Wars was a really fun series.  The Lego crossover games are great when you play them with friends, otherwise not so much.  Iji and Spelunky are great little indie games.

Nier for PS3/360 is probably the best I've played in the last 5 years.  Lots of melodrama, if you're into that sort of stuff.

Demon's Souls for PS3 for gameplay, atmosphere, story, all around knockout.
