Soo.. I tried the whole start with nothing thing.

I did very well had overflowing food with farms and fish and so on. Got hunters started from butchering a wagon animal and time went on in success.

While some very interesting and action packed hunting was going on with 4 or 5 dwarfs suddenly:


   ëë  ëëëë ëëëë ëë ëëëë ë


Squads apon squads of Elf's Attacked me.

Why did this happen do they look after the local wildlife?

They sometimes react to intensive woodcutting, but I've never heard of them protecting wildlife. How long has your settlement been active?

Oh i haven't been keeping track how can i check?

But that must be it my map size is small and at the start of my game everyone was wood cutters and my map has been cut down and regrown a few times and then cut down again.

So that must be it, thanks.

How do you know how long a game has been going for?

It's possible you generated a world where elves are at war with dwarves.

If you press Z you can see the current date in the top right corner, but you can't directly tell when the settlement was founded without going into Legends. But if your dwarves have been making engravings or sewing images on things, odds are good that some of them contain references to the founding of the fortress (and the date).

If this was very soon after the founding of your fort, then your civ is at war with the elves. If this is much later in the fort (sounds like it given the trees regrew a few times) then you may have gotten a tree diplomat or you did something to seriously piss off the elves in another way. Just clear cutting trees shouldn't piss them off to war so readily.

Alternatively, you've been at war with them since the start but the RNG happened to be giving you good dice rolls all the time so they procrastinated on their invasion until now.
