Can you mod invaders to wear more armor?
« on: June 05, 2011, 07:13:24 pm »

Currently, they will have some clothes, a weapon, and maybe 2 pieces of armor. How can they be modded to wear complete suits of armor?

I guess you could disable all the clothes in their entity files. I think this might work because they usually bring 2 pieces of upper body equipment, usually a shirt of some kind and a piece of actual armor (breastplate, mail shirt). If you remove the shirt from the entity, they will be forced to choose from breastplate and mail shirt only.

As far as I know, no you cannot.  And I don't really know why they were changed to wear only torso and head armor really.

It is possible to create a leather that has equivalent strength to metal and you'll sometimes get some wearing leggings or robes of it assuming yer invaders have hunting ot domestic access to the source critter, making them significantly more completely armored, but no direct or consistent way to do it sadly.

You can set armor pieces to FORCED in the entity file. Of course, this would make the civilians wear armor too...

EDIT: Nope, it doesn't work. I just made my imperial humans have the equivalent of steel skin. It works well enough.

Add a new armor item like "(iron) plate harness" that has upper and lower step coverage. This will provide more full-body protection than individual breastplates or shirts and acheive the ends you're looking for.

I like that solution.
You could even make the production costs for it equal to a full set of armor, though I doubt it will matter unless you add it to your own entity.

I've decided to change armor to [FORCED].

They still don't wear gauntlets or boots then.

This was also found out and reported by me a while back. The only solution for this is to make a copy of the armor without armor level and the layer must not be armor and give them to foreign civs. You may also consider making all civs of different size so your dorfs dont claim that precious goblin iron "shirt".
