I'm currently building a temple to the gods that my dwarves worship, with statues made of appropriate materials.

For example, the god of war, victory, and fortresses has a steel statue, while the god of death has a obsidian statue that I hope to decorate with bones.

It requires lots of micromanagement and disposal of surplus statues.

blood, lots of blood for god of war!
skulls, skeletons of fallen enemies, tributed to it as well, pile them around the shrine or the statue!

every season, drop one captured enemy from 10 z-levels above to the front of the statue too!

Man, you guys have some good ones. The best ones I've had are the mayor-surrounded-by-detested-vermin and goblins cringing: "This artwork relates to the crushing of the goblin Ngoso Stubsngo by a diorite drawbridge in Vesselbone in 994, during the Incinerated Assault" and whatnot. Naturally I put those by the drawbridge.

Although I did have a pretty good engraving a troll falling. "This artwork relates to the impalement of the troll on a menacing iron spike." The title was "The Big Creep."

The item is a masterfully designed image of Washedpeaces the naked mole dog and dwarves in claystone by Stukos Zulbannitig. Washedpeaces is surrounded by the dwarves. The artwork relates to THE RISE OF THE NAKED MOLE DOG WASHEDPEACES AS AN ENEMY of the Fresh Relic in the late summer of 1066.

It is encrusted with claystone and encircled with bands of claystone. This object menaces with spikes of hematite.

My metalcrafter has produced a masterwork platinum statue.  The statue is of my manager/bookkeeper/broker, surrounded by worms.  It's funny because my manager detests worms, and is a friend of the metalcrafter.

Recently most of the statue my dwarves made are related to elections and rejections of the majors. They like to go political in these days...
