GoldenEye: Source
« on: April 07, 2011, 11:35:56 pm »

Yeah, uh, I don't know where to start. Remember GoldenEye 64? Good. Now do you remember how people use Source to do some crazy shit? Combine those two together and you get GoldenEye: Source. Don't expect anything too fancy though, it's simply a remake of the original GoldenEye with the Source engine. It's not exactly like the original GoldenEye, considering the lack of players running around as Oddjob killing everyone and not being hit, and perhaps the maps may be slightly different, but it's a decent game/mod. Playing it is quite fun, too. I'd suggest a try of it when one has the time.

I give it 6 months before they get a cease and desist letter.  The old GoldSRC one only lasted about that long before it got shut down.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

How many servers are running right now?
I've been keen to give it a go, but I don't know anyone who'd fancy such a competitive multiplayer game.

Oh oh oh! How are the customization options? The one thing that really irked me about the old Goldeneye was the way you couldn't really customize the matches too much. You couldn't get a theme going!

How's it compare to the HL1 mod?  It was pretty faithful, except the sniper rifle had been buffed considerably and was pretty much the best choice all the time, including narrow corridors.

HMR stands for Hazardous Materials Requisition, not Horrible Massive Ruination, though I can understand how one could get confused.

No idea about the HL1 mod and how this compares to it.

Hrm? It's been out for about a year already.

Last time I checked, four servers, two full, two with only one person each. I'd be interested in trying, though.

As for customization...
Uh, you could switch between Classic and New maps, change weapon loadouts, choose whether there is radar or not, decide whether you should start with a weapon or not, and finally, change the game mode. Not that customizable.

Weapon loadouts?
Pah, they've got an engine as complex as source, yet they still confine themselves to the restrictions of the N64.
Still, using KB&M should make the combat a heck of a lot more fun. Though, actually, it was incredibly fast paced for an N64 game, so it might be a good thing that they've stuck close to the original.

Also, I have to say I'm surprised. I thought after all the coverage this has gotten, it would have more than four servers.
I can probably host a 6 man server, dedicated with SourceMod and such installed. But, I dunno how necessary that is.
I'll take a look into it when I get onto off-peak bandwidth.

Is Jaws still a giant target?

And have they converted Surface into a multiplayer map? I was dissapointed at the original Goldeneye for missing that snipe-fest opportunity.

I don't believe they have Jaws in there anymore. Scratch that, I was murdered 10 times by Jaws, but he's only slightly huger than everyone else.

And I'm not sure about Surface...

Hope nobody minds me giving this a two month bump, but I've just gotten it.
Man, there's hardly anyone playing, which is a real shame since it's a fantastic mod.

It's great to finally have a competitive game where you can relax and have fun. The other source multi-players are a bit in your face. *coughcounterstrikecough*
