Aye, I do like daggerfall, but I have yet to even escape the starting cave. Damn thieves deal 4/5 of my hp per hit, and rats are annoying to. What is frustrating me is swinging my weapon at them a dozen times and perhaps hitting twice. Gah. That, and I cant change the resolution. Which is fine, really, because its in a window, but when I want to be a little more immersed, I like a full screen.

You remember the character creation questions? There's one about "what did you save from such-and-such a time"

Pick the "knife" one. You get what is an excellent weapon to survive the first dungeon. Plus, there's whole tutorials on picking advantages and disadvantages. They have a long-term effect on your character. e.g. a phobia of something weak will save some points at little cost.

How come you can't do full-screen? That's not normal for DF.

I mean an actual full screen. Alt+Enter gives me the same 800x600 box that you get by playing in windowed mode, just surrounded by blackness.

Will do the knife thing, and I'll use that activate mouse button from now on :P

Try Score Doom.

Thanks!  Very much need to check this out.  Likely to be an event next time I have friends visiting.

Changing how the output looks is all up to DosBox and your Operating system. Daggerfall puts out 320/200 aspect ratio, but DosBox has scalers for setting the output size.

Bringing up this semi-old topic again for a quick question.

I need a MMORPG/MMORTS/MMOAnything right now. I am extremely bored. Hopefully something with a decently small filesize (<1 gig), quick to set up, extremely fun and non-generic.

Its so annoying how every MMO developer makes games based on concepts that have been done hundreds of times, each time only changing one little part of the concept and calling it their own. Someone needs to rethink MMOs.

The things are (apparently) expensive. Groups with much money are not very good friends with risk.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

HellMOO? Wurm Online? Puzzle Pirates? Haven & Hearth?

EDIT: APB apparently went F2P and open beta.

Trying out UO on a private server. Hopefully I can play it free that way. Looks a bit like Diablo, which I loved. Still generic though.

And yes, thats probably true aklyon.

Daggerfall is nice if you can get past the controls. The whole move mouse to swing thing can take some getting used to, I wish it could be remapped to diff keys - 4 keys for 4 diff attacks and you'd have a quick way to attack without having to swing your mouse around. Too bad theres no way to do that.

The custom class system is kinda broken though. You can make ridiculously powerful characters by using the custom class thing. There are lots of weaknesses that mean nothing in the long run. Being unable to use Steel, Elven, Dwarven, etc gear gives you loads of free points, and all it does is make things a little harder earlier on, but you can quickly level up and find yourself a higher end item like mithril or daedric. Same with the inability to use certain weapons.

Theres also a very exploity one - If you go high elf, you can take the crippling weakness to paralysis one and it won't affect you because you have immunity that cancels it out.

Just the inability to use a bunch of materials and weapon types could give you enough points to have high hp, 2x mana, and focus (or whatever its called, I forget) in your chosen weapon type - effectively making a super class.

Check out Guild Wars 2. It promises to innovate a lot

Ooo! Lots of browser based MMOs that probably fit your parameters:
a.) Spiral Knights
b.) Puzzle Pirates
c.) Bang Howdy!
are all small but fun java-based games that are pretty small.

Also, check out Splashfighters (http://splashfighters.com) for another relatively small MMO that is still fun and awesome. (And the sequel to Splashfighters, Get Amped 2. Not sure on the filesize of that though.)
