Armok Dammit, we need those pants!
« on: May 31, 2011, 04:19:49 pm »

I've noticed something I never knew before. Dwarves who are not wearing any clothing don't seem to live very long before infection takes them.

Unfortunately, I have ONE SELFISH BASTARD claiming every single shoe, sock, and boot I make. I built 4 leatherworks, and 3 clothing workshops hoping I could build enough clothing to cover my dwarves for a decent amount of time. Even with this inanely unecessary amount of production going into making nothing but shoes and feet covering he claims them before anyone else can grab them.

Of course I'm just going to kill him, but does anyone know why this happens, and if there is a way to prevent it?

The only time they seem to claim clothes is when they own a room to store it in,. if the dwarf has a bed room, unassign it.

Jail him. Dig room with single tile access, and add door. Disable, on all dwarves but the prisoner, carpentry. Order Construction of Carpenter's Workshop. When he goes in to build it, lock the door behind him.

Up to you if you feed him or not.

Eh, I'm just going to give him a training sword and wooden armor and send him out to greet that dragon I trapped on the above world map.

Thanks for letting me know that they will do this with rooms though. Thing is his room is packed, how is he still claiming more?

Its the quantum stockpile effect. 1 space can hold unlimited items.

Dwarves only claim clothes they can path to and when they're not doing a job. Mind, they only need one instant of being idle to claim an item all the way across the map. This means you need to either keep him eternally busy (but he'll go on break eventually...) or lock him up somewhere he can't path to all the clothes.

Congrats, Psieye. This is the first time I've seen a derailed thread get put back on the rails.

why not just make a burrow then assign him to it. seems alot easier to get him in there.
