Game Freezes on Ghost Haunting
« on: May 30, 2011, 07:01:51 pm »

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

My game has been crashing consistently whenever this ghostly miller appears to haunt my fortress. He wasn't one of my dwarves and I'm certain he wasn't part of a caravan either.

Any in case my game stops responding either right after the haunting message or right before, when I assume, it's about to appear.

There is literally no time to carve a memorial to advert the haunting since I saved too close to "zero hour".

What can i do to fix this?

I use the Gem Warfare, Black Powder Firearms mods along with ~4 races from the fortress defense mod and I use Ironhand's graphics pack.

Upgrade to .25, this issue has been fixed/lessened such that ghosts are not an FPS killer anymore.

I am playing .25 and it's not "killing" my fps in any perceptible way, the game just stops working immediately. And I've had ghost hauntings before.

Besides I can see the ghost floating around even before I get the message.

Hmm, have you attempted any Runesmith hacking?  You may be able to un-ghost him or something, not sure.

Going to try runesmith now I guess.

I'm using vista x32 on this laptop.
And I tried the game with and without uncompressed saves.

Edit: Runesmith has the miller show up as ALIVE and NOT dead and he has a "breathing problem". I don't see any option to kill or remove him without committing genocide on the entire dwarven race.

Edit 2: Found the delete.

No idea, only dabbled in Runesmith to poke at skill levels, but it seems like the go-to for this type of thing.

After erasing him from existence the game still crashes. I'd really hate to have to start from an earlier backup.

Turn off your computer, or dwarf fortress, for a bit. It might be overheating or something.

I don't know.

Hush little baby, listen to my song,
Mamma's gonna tan you a troll leather thong.
And if that thong don't menace with spikes,
Mamma's gonna kill you whatever you like...

I've had this happening since last night :/

It's been like groundhog day where i scramble to do whatever i can to try to prevent the freeze and when the time comes it happens anyways.
