Exploding corpses preserve weird connectivities
« on: April 13, 2008, 08:23:00 pm »

One of my hammerdwarves just knocked a kobold thief a good twenty feet into a wall, killing him in one shot. On impact, the thief lost:

his left upper leg
his right upper leg
his left upper arm
his head

In addition, after waiting a few ticks, his right upper arm fell down from in orbit (it made it all the way up to z+8!). His lower legs and lower arms are nowhere to be found, so presumably they're still on the corpse...leaving the question of how, exactly, kobold anatomy works?

Sounds like your hammerdwarf disconnected the kobold's legs at the knees and arms at the elbow.

I don't know about you, but the way I learned it, the upper arms are the bits connected to the shoulders, and the upper legs are connected to the hips.

Maybe, but then the lower legs/arms would be dangling by a strand of skin or something

Um...if the upper arm is totally disconnected from the body, then the lower arm perforce cannot be attached to the body either. Basic graph theory, mate.

The upper arms are connected at the shoulder. The lower arms are still connected to the upper arm. You just can't see them. Same with the legs.

Aahh.  If the critter was still alive and you ripped its hand off, it would have grayed out "right hand", as well as all the "right second finger" etc.  But if it was dead, the fingers would still be on the hand--and not specially listed anywhere.

If that's the case, then the items should be labeled "right leg", "left leg", "right arm", and "left arm". So, still a bug; just not as interesting of one.  :)

To be honest I'm kind of impressed you dismembered a kobold by striking him with a hammer... I mean the amount of force necessary to strike the creatures torso, accelerating it fast enough to leave bits of it behind, thats a  lotta force. (I assume thats what happened, for lack of sharp bits)
