You could make a case for Dwarf Fortress being educational regarding geology and metallurgy but that's about all it would stand up to. This grant's more focused on Flash games and Apps that focus on preventing bullying, increasing knowledge of the Government, promotion of religious tolerance etc.

We all wish Toady could increase the monetary return on his work but the game's focus isn't aligned with the qualities the government looks to fund.

Dwarf Fortress could easily get the grant if not for the legal issues. Toady deserves some extra cash, plus it would bring publicity in the best way possible. He should really consider looking into whether it would be too difficult to set up bay12 to be eligible.

No matter how you guys spin it, you can kill children in graphic detail on this game. It'll never get a grant.

One day, independent game developers will be able to get government grants in various ways.

Until that day, it's best not to slow down the process by getting greedy with the early ones. People who give out grants for the arts are rarely as obsessive over the end result as the fans are.
