Magma pumping problem
« on: December 23, 2007, 06:51:00 pm »

I built some steel pumps to pump magma to see if I could exploit the bug that generates infinite magma to fill the pool I tapped back up to hopefully stop it from lowering my FPS.

However, despite it all being set up properly, it's not pumping, and the only thing odd I can find is the "molten Basalt" in the square it should be pumping from.

Okay, it's just... not pumping. The "molten stone" went away, and it didn't pump. I demolished the whole setup and rebuilt one and am operating it manually and it's... not pumping.

I found this bug as well, try digging a 1X1 channel to extend the magma and pump from that. It worked for me but its still not certain why we cant pump from the magma directly.

Is the tile you are trying to pump from indoors or outdoors?

It's indoors, and I'm not pumping from the magma pool, I'm pumping form the reservoir under my magma building area, in the hopes that a known bug will let me pump unlimited amounts of magma out of it.

Is the square you are pumping from at least 2 z levels deep with magma? I hear it will only pump with that much under it. I got it to pump with a similar setup and a windmill... and wooden parts. Woo that was fun while it lasted.

You don't happen to be the previous owner of some basalt mechanisms, do you?

It may very well be that you don't have flame-retardant mechanisms to power your pumps.  Are the pumps actually running, or are they just sitting there and not doing anything?

I suppose if you could get a dwarf to pump it manually, it's probably functional, but check anyways.

I wonder if it has to do with the wooden pipe-section.

No mechanisms involved, just steel pumps (blocks, screw, pipe) with a wooden windmill sitting on top away from where the magma will be. And it's one z-level deep, that's... probably it.

Does somebody have a fairly simple save where it's just not working?
