Cave spider, but I haven't breached the caves yet?
« on: May 21, 2011, 03:24:35 pm »

So I was just digging out some bedrooms in my shiny new fort (which is still in its first year). I saw a vermin, and didn't recognize the colour, so I loo[k]ed at it...turns out it's a cave spider! Hello there, little guy!

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Yup, they will occasionally spawn like that. Did you breach a cavern, then wall it up immediately? That will allow them to spawn in your fort. Unless you dug too close, and left a crack. That not good. If not, now you can gather cave silk safely, and not have a forgotten beast fly through the crack

Sure. Vermin aren't creatures and aren't subject to the same rules. Most relevantly, they don't move as such, but rather simply have their position change. This means that they aren't hindered by obstacles, and will appear anywhere in or near their appropriate biome. All this occurrence means is that you've got a cavern somewhere near those bedrooms.

Nah, haven't even seen any caves.

Beware Mister, might be on the other side of a wall. I start getting paranoid at the ninth z level
