Saving Error: Compressed File corruption
« on: November 08, 2007, 05:38:00 pm »

Randomly, when I save my game, and then try to reload it, it gives me the error
"One of the compressed files on disk has errors in it. Restore from backup if you are able."

It doesn't always do this, sometimes it gives me no problems when I save.
I've redownloaded the game twice. Once from the site, one was a send from another person that plays the game with no problems.

I do use Windows XP 64-bit, and have two SATA HDs, I don't know if that would make a difference.

Here is the save file. Someone else has tried it and gotten the same error. http://rapidshare.com/files/68394884/error.rar.html

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

I *THINK*, but am not sure, that this is the 32a/33a version of the 'inflate error: -3' error. it basically means the INFLATE algorithm, which is used to compress data, failed one or more of its checks of the compressed data OR it ran into an error while decompressing it. It means that block of compressed data is destroyed (though the beginning of it may be ok, and posting it IS a good way for toady to check if he can maybe see what caused it).
Unless you have a backup of your save, though, you're SOL in that regard.

Hello,

I also suffered this bug at one of my hot-spot seaside zombie resorts, after a normal save and quit.

Here is a copy of the save:  http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PXN69RVW

And here's my Direct X Diagnostic file:

I was wondering if there was any file I could go in and tweak, or look at, to be able to retrieve a world seed without being able to go into legends mode or export a world snapshot?

Sorry for the necro, but I'm also using Windows XP-64 I'm also getting the error, and I can't seem to find any other thread on the issue.

There's another one running someplace as of about a week ago.  I don't know that any conclusions were reached.  I have no idea about the problem myself.

I wasn't having any problems before I installed Windows XP-64, even though I was running a 64 bit chip previously, just with the normal Windows XP operating system.  Hope that helps.

Nothing funny happens when you do that.  It's just completely unware of the upper half of the registers.
(There are 4 in-CPU "memory" locations called registers, A, B, C, and D.  The first 8 bits are called 'low', so AL, BL, etc.  The next 8 are high', AH, BH, etc.  The next 16 bits are 'extended' (the move from 16 to 32 bits), EAX, EBX, etc.  64 bit machines have an ADDITIONAL 32 bits above that.  Having not worked with 64 bit assembler I don't know the names.  32 bit OSes just ignore them as their compiled code uses up to the extended registers.)

Anyway, technical crap aside, I've run DF on Win XP 64 bit edition and so far haven't had any trouble (beyond my CPU trying to melt itslef in the hot weather--running comercial games like SupCom and World in Conflict just outright causes my machine to reboot in ~10 minutes).
