Large Gem Stockpiles

Do they not work?  Nobody ever hauls anything into them.  Jeweler's shops gradually accumulate them.

Yeah, large gems don't get put into stockpiles properly right now... best way to manage them is to dump them into a quantum stockpile then unforbid them when the caravan comes by.

They don't work because of an oversight on Toady's part; the materials list for finished goods stockpiles doesn't include any gemstones. As such, no item made from gemstones, including for instance diamonds and topaz, can be stored in them. Most large gems are made from gemstones, so they don't get stocked.

Huh, interesting mechanic to that.  Hopefully not a hard fix for Toady!

I thought they were finished goods.

I thought they were finished goods.
They technically are, but if you look under the settings for a finished goods stockpile, large gems aren't listed.  Thus, dwarves won't haul large gems into finished goods stockpiles.

That's wrong. Large gems are listed. You can store large glass gems just fine. It's specifically gemstone-material finished goods that don't get stocked.

If your gem cutters manage to make gem crafts, you will find that they don't get stockpiled either.

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
