[33g] same seed, new world. again.
« on: December 22, 2007, 08:30:00 pm »

"made world generation results independent of custom name"

I usually make a world using the same seed I always have, leaving the name random. Despite this, the name always came up "The Eternal Land".

Now I make a new world in 33g with the same seed and random name, and I get a totally different landscape, as well as taking an extra 80+ rejects to get it right. Also, the name is still "The Eternal Land".

Seeing as I never used a custom name, I figure I should be getting the same landscape as always, right?

No, but as I understand it, now that seed will be the same with or without a randon name. Or is it that it'll be the same with any custom name?

From what I can tell with a little testing on earlier versions, it has always generated the same world with a custom name, regardless of which particular custom name was chosen.

Now, world gen handles things a little differently, and it sounds like previous seeds, custom name or not, no longer generate the same world.

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...<P>It should be pretty fun though.

Correct due to a change in the random seed calls, you can't have a custom/non-custom name, identical world without changing the seed again after generating a name, thus old seeds don't make the same worlds as the seed is changing differently.
