That one square of magma smelters dwarves gets stuck on
« on: January 11, 2007, 02:00:00 am »

I'm not sure what's causing it to be exact, but it looks like pathing doesn't route around it.  Had a miner get stuck, spam a message or three, horse came along from the south and switched places with him.  He then moved back onto the square, forcing the horse off to the north, then stepped back off to the south, both went along their merry ways.

I've seen this as well, but only when my magma smelter is built over a single square of magma. If your entire right-hand side is on the magma, then dwarves don't path through the 'impassible' section. This may help.

When I handle that square any weird behavior associated with it will likely go away, at least.

I'm guessing this is the same thing mentioned in another thread.  Dwarves now frequently get stuck on top of statues and wells when placing them, but, depending on the job, will climb off.  It appears that eat and sleep jobs will get them to move off, but drink jobs will not.  I had a fisherdwarf drowsy and thirsty standing on top of a statue for half a season before I got someone to remove the statue out from under him and save him.

Could this be the same "don't go outside means 'I see if I can path from here to there before I do anything' and I can't path because I'm on an unpathable square" thing?  If so, could you just make dwarves check if they're on an impassable square before any job stuff, and then have them seek a place that's safe to move to first?
