Named items get artifact bonus?
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:54:18 am »

I read somewhere that named items get artifact bonuses. Is this true? If so, does this also make them indestructible? I'd try science, but I have no idea how to destroy a *spoiler* short sword that wouldn't destroy just about everything else.

As far as I know, an artifact wooden training sword is completely useless the best weapon in existence.

If so, does this also make them indestructible? I'd try science, but I have no idea how to destroy a *spoiler* short sword that wouldn't destroy just about everything else.

If uncertain, apply magma. If the issue remains, apply more.

Its true. One of my axedwarves cut a giant one eyed turkey titans head off then named his copper battle axe, and i looked at the artifact page; there it was. Its name was in a different color of text, if that matters; it might just mean it was promoted to such status after its construction, who knows. For the indestructible part, i have no idea, I'm not willing to break the axe. I could give you a save for !!SCIENCE!! though.

It makes them indestructible in the same way as artifacts I believe. I found this out when a wooden shield became permanently on fire in a previous fort.

Obviously I've been trying to figure out how to get a burning shield onto a raising bridge to launch at my enemies.

Make a dumping zone on said bridge, dump shield, launch and laugh as enemies burn.

And cry as the haulers spread fire through your entire fort.

Maybe they don't break, but do they get the beyond masterwork bonus?

As Toady worded it: they become "semi-artifacts".

Yes, but what does semi- mean?
Maybe they're indestructible but what happens to artifact bonuses?

Indeed, my entire military names their weapons after the first or second siege. They do surprisingly well for having normal-finelycrafted weapons.

No more need for masterworks! Just get them to name their weapon and insta-bonuses!

Let's see if I can make a legendary wooden sword of smashing limbs.
