You people who think you have to assign each room manually are silly. I've read, in the last week or so, at least four reports of people doing that because they were too silly to realize the proper way of work and it boggled my mind.

Heh, I've been playing for five years and just learned through this thread that I didn't have to assign them manually. I always figured they just used any free, unassigned bed as they do with hopsitals or barracks, but not claiming it for their own as they appareantly do.

I usually mine out a bunch of 3x3 rooms, just because it's the default room size, in rows. I also, as I dig further down, create additional stockpiles and dormitories so dwarves don't have to go all the way up to my main bits just to get a drink and a rest from their work-halls deep in the earth.

Civilian apartment block in Lancedbridges:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Duke/Mayor's rooms on the left, crypt north, sandwich apartment blocks on the right. Bookkeeper, manager's quarters at south, garbage chute near stairwell. The statuary will be expanded when I get a blacksmith trained up or the glassmaker stops making statues of elves. The masterwork rose gold statue is bling'd out and every dwarf passes it on the way to their rooms (more to be added and engraved around later). Above and below the stairs lead into similar room blocks, which only adds 1 extra pathing step up the stairwells. The apartment complex holds 96 3x3 rooms and could have easily been mirrored for a larger population.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Beds can only be built on an ''inside''' tile.

Am i only one who did 11x11 rooms for everyone?

Yes.. I think you might be. 11x11 is excessive.

I know, but it's inside if you put a roof on it, silly.

I have a weird obsession with external buildings.

But... it's not technically outside if it's inside.... D:

What if you build it inside but outside and then dismantle the roof, eh, EH?!

Children will claim rooms as if they were grown-ups. However, spouses will share a bedroom, along with babies. If they get married during the course of your fort's life, then the wife will share the husband's room but still keep her own if she had one before, so you'll have to manually disable that one.
