[38c]Pressure plate stopped working
« on: April 08, 2008, 09:55:00 pm »

It used to trigger the floodgate right next to it on 0-3. I watched it open and the close several times. The water level has now fluctuated between 1 & 2 several times without triggering.

Its hard to tell how long its been like this, but its been in place for less than a season. The area I'm filling is less than half full.

I'm going to link a lever to the gate to open it, then once the water level on the plate is above 3/7, closing it to see if the plate starts working again.

Spring has arrived and with it enough liquid water to get the water depth on the plate above 3/7 at which point it started working again.

I do have a save backed up from when it wasn't working that I can provide.

This tends to happen when it flickers in and out of the pressure range a lot in a short time, it just sort of gets confused. You should try to always have a manual pump to put the plate out of triggering range.

I can take a look at it.  I'll need the region folder in some kind of zip/rar/7z, and any new objects that were added to the raw folder.  If it's less than 20 megs, you can send it to toadyone@bay12games.com.  You can also try The Dwarf Fortress File Depot which has a special section for bugged saves.

Just a note to the OP:  DF screenshots look way better when you save them as .PNG instead of .JPG.

After hours and hours of and testing this, i THINK i can say:
pressure plates that are set to 0/0 (maybe 7/7 too?) seem to work properly.

But plates with different values tend to cease to work sooner or later, at least for me.

I just had a pressure plate cease to function that was set to 0/0.

So I can't say much about those things, but for me, water triggered pressure plates just stop to work after a certain number of cycles. The 0/0 plates definetly seemed to work longer.

Pressure plates are delicate instruments, they tend to not be able to cope well with fast-changing water. If the water fluctuates around its triggering level too fast over a short period of time, it usually stops working. If it thinks the water's too low and always open, you have to have a backup system to pump the water out. If it thinks the water's too high and always closed, well, either pump some in or tell some dwarves to hit the buckets.
