Messing with Raw

Is it possible to create a material that constantly generate vapor (Steam/Mist/Gas,whatever), but did not disappear? Or an item with the same purpose.

Or people could still be trying to figure out if it can... it's only been 7 hours and some change.

Personally Materials !!SCIENCE!! is far from a forte. There's checking out "Santaclase" from S.L.A.D.E. when that's tossed into a magma hole garbage dump it tends to smoke forever but not just vanish... forever here is "why is that still smoking a month after I last tossed something in..."

Let's see... a Carpenter's Workshop lit up when I was punishing my current race&civ test, and that burned for like a year and a half before I just deconstructed it.

Perhaps some notes can be gleaned from Warlord's Bonfire Mod?

Thanks for your kind reply. I will look into the the bonfire mod and see if I can recreate anything good from it.

Attempt 1:
Let's try modify the steel, by adjusting its boiling point to be lower than melting point, at room temperature.

It should evaporate at room temperature now. I set the HEATDAM_POINT to NONE, let's see if the steel will "gas-out" or not.

EDIT:
I used copper in my testing...and sadly it doesn't work. Even with HEATDAM_POINT set to none, the copper picks i embark with evaporate into nothingness almost immediately.

So editing boiling point results in failure. I guess ignition point won't work either, Since it will likely burn the dwarf holding the material.

Probably setting the ignition point to something rather low and leaving the melting point as-is would work. That's why graphite and lignite never go out, after all.

I was trying to create a solid material (Or Item) that generate gas without !!burning!! and/or evaporate into nothingness. So anything that burn won't do...

can try making a vermin that leaks out blood or ooze that evaporates/steams.  make sure it isn't hateable and doesn't die from blood loss. lol
