GameTap

Does anyone have any idea how it works? I downloaded EU3, but when I hit the play button, it starts then closes. Any idea of how to use it?

gametap has major problems with any modern version of Windows past XP. I quit using it years ago and went with Steam, totally different business model of course, but Gametap burned me hard.

Bleh. I had GT on my computer for about 3 months, then declared it a huge memory hog that is batshit expensive, and doesn't even have good copies of the games.

Ugh, GameTap. I saw a few ads for it saying "Free games", I checked it out. Only the games aren't free - you have to pay for the service, and the games are only for a limited time, and you have to install their software and run it through it, like a crappier version of Steam.

I think I got as far as "You have to pay" before I decided it was a colossal waste of time.

Well, someone else is paying for it, so just help me out here. Why does EU3 crash when I try to run it?

For some reason, Gametap's version of EU3 runs at a default resolution of 1280x960.

To fix it, find your Gametap folder and open the EU3 folder (Mine's c:/Gametap/Games/Europauniversalis3). Open settings.txt and either change y=960 to something reasonable like y=1024, or change the size lines to x=1024 and y=768.

GameTap was awesome when it had a downloadable client with all the games downloadable and playable from there.  They got bought out by some company that migrated it to their browser-based system and it was awful.  For a few weeks it wasn't even usable, and when I finally quit forever a few months later it was still terrible and didn't work half the time.

this was my experience too. I really liked it back when. Then when it went web, I couldn't get it to work and quit.

Yep, once upon a time it was nice, now I just pretend it's dead.
