Graphical tiles respecting tokens
« on: May 15, 2011, 09:21:25 pm »

I'm working on a graphic set, and I'm a little sad that graphical tiles only respect creature name and profession. The caste system lets us do so much, so I propose an addition to the graphics system. [TILE_CLASS:FEMALE] could be dropped into, say, the dwarven female.

Then in the [GRAHPICS_DWARVES]

[CREATURE_GRAPHICS:DWARF]
   [DEFAULT:DWARVES:0:0:ADD_COLOR]
   [MINER:DWARVES:1:0:AS_IS:DEFAULT]

[CREATURE_GRAPHICS:DWARF:FEMALE]
   [DEFAULT:DWARVES:0:1:ADD_COLOR]
   [MINER:DWARVES:1:1:AS_IS:DEFAULT]

Or something similar. It's a simple, short-term solution to a lot of what the graphics people run into, and to what even more of the modders run into!

I concur with your assessment, the lack of support for castes in this and other aspects of the game is probably a result of Toady not really caring for graphics at all, and so he overlooks these things.

Of course, I also happened to have made this exact same suggestion a while back, myself.  :P
