Nobody will pull the lever or pick up some junk
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:23:50 am »

My garbage compactor/gobbo chute is stalled.  No one will pull a simple lever to bring the bridge down, even though they've demonstrated this capability numerous times before.  Also strewn about the room are some misc gobbo clothes (from a brief encounter with a spearman that miraculously survived a 20 z drop).  I've tried every combo of forbid/claim/dump I can think of to get them to pick those up too.

No burrows are active, no locked doors that I can see, and 80 idlers.  Thoughts?

Try making a new lever and linking it to the bridge? Perhaps something happened to the linkage.

Also, to move claimed items I found getting masons to put a floor/wall there can help. Check if the stuff is claimed.

Both problems sound like they could be because they can't path to the area. I'd check that.

Thanks I'll give that a shot.

There are a few different things that can cause a problem like this, the most common is inadvertently removing stairs/ramps that access the area, check carefully between your idling dwarves and the lever and see if there are any missing ramps, or down stairs without corresponding up stairs below etc.

There is also the remote possibility that pathing is 'broken' which can be fixed by finding a door (any door will do), lock it, unpaus for a few, unlock it and unpause.  This forces the engine to re-caculate pathing, fixing any bugged path issues.

Ha, well I got the lever fixed.  I forbad it while the spearman was running loose to stop people from trying to pull it.  Derp.
