Merchant goes mad
« on: January 03, 2007, 04:22:00 pm »

Ok so i was just looking around and i notice a merchant and a guard hanging around the side of the road with a couple of mules so i say... No problem it will fix itself right? So later on i become concerned when these messages arise.

mule has gone stark raving mad!
Hustra Uciquenir, human merchant has gone stark raving mad!
mule has gone stark raving mad!

So now I'm worried and i run over to find the guard dead I first think it to be lack of food or water or something like that untill i notice that his head lying next to the rest  corpse... Ok so he didn't die peacefully now I'm REALLY worried and i start to notice that they are literally just standing there.
And so they still do.

I noticed this happen when I made some channels to keep elephants away from my road. For some reason merchants can make it to the depot and trade but are unable to leave the way they came. They hang around for a while then they and their mules go nuts.

A couple bridges fixed the problem for me. Elephants now wander a little more freely, but whatcha gonna do?

Weird.  In the third year of my current fortress, a goblin siege took place while a human caravan was visiting.  The accursed goblins killed most of the humans who were currently trading at my depot.

Two human merchants survived.  One fled inside my fortress and the other one is wandering along the outside wall.  They spend most of their time unconscious and the rest of the time just staggering around uselessly.

What's funny is that none of them have gone mad, or died of their wounds, or anything.  They just have the brown "lying down" background graphic and really slow, pointless movement.  Right now I think one of the merchants has fallen asleep in my plump helmet stockpile.

The intruder arose, casting off its black cloak.  "Behold, stunted jesters!  It is I, Scuro!"  A jagged scar marked the goblin's face from eye to chin, his greasy mane gray and wild, and about his neck was the broken silver amulet, strapped together by a leather band.
