Dwarfs losing their nicknames?
« on: May 07, 2011, 06:21:21 pm »

Seems like all my nicknamed dwarfs have lost their nicknames.  Any idea why this would happen?

I had a game crash, but they were definitely nicknamed for several saves prior.

Thanks.

They may have leveled up to a new level.  Military dwarves will frequently drop their nicknames as they get more skilled at combat.

Did you name them in the game or in Therapist? Therapist used to drop nicknames, I don't know if that still happens.

I use Therapist for setting nicknames, and my military retains their nicknames even when they gain new, longer names (after 5th kill). I use default options for nicknames, DF version 0.31.25 and Therapist 0.6.10.

This is a known bug with Dwarf Therapist.  If you set nicknames in DT then upon getting a kill (therefore usually applicable to only military dwarves) nicknames will be dropped.  To ensure this doesn't happen I always nickname my dorfs in DT with capitals and then rename them ingame using the "u" > "v" > "y" > "n" hotkey system.

I have the same problem with losing nicknames. Same version of DF and DwarfTherapist

My dwarves surely don't lose nicknames after getting their name expanded.  'Zasit!' Zonrimtar changes into 'Zasit!' Zonrimtar Komanokol Sezuk for example, that was the first military I nicknamed. I also nickname mother with babies, and they retain they name till death.

It may depends on some other settings then.
