Check Chest
« on: February 29, 2008, 07:39:00 am »

I'm on my second year with version 0.27.176.38c and I was watching my expedition leader while he was trying to conduct a meeting with the Hamlet Liason, and something strange kept happening.

I have him set with all the gather tasks turned off, as well as any profession tasks. He stands around in his office/throne room with his current task reading 'Conduct Meeting' and the liason right next to him, then suddenly for no apparent reason he switches jobs to "Check Chest" and runs off to one of my other dwarves bedrooms, or an unoccupied bedroom, and takes a look at their cabinet or coffer, then runs back. This only takes a few seconds 'cause he's rediculously speedy compared to my other dwarves, but I don't see why he's doing it at all? There doesn't seem to be anything in the chests, or wrong with them, and they don't specifically belong to him, AND he has better things to do. What's going on here?

Simple. Keep unoccupied rooms free, only beds. Put chests and cabinets only in rooms with an occupant, and no "check chest" jobs will be generated. They are just a stupid loss of time...

I put a cabinet in my Organisers' quarters and everyone kept tramping through his office to gawk at it, got more visitors than the mural depicting the mona-lisa.
